Q: How hard are Genics products to install and are they safe?

A: At Genics, the health and safety of the workers and protection of the environment are top priorities. Genics products are designed for easy and fast installation with minimum exposure to active chemicals. Genics has been awarded a "Certificate of Recognition" by the Alberta Construction Safety Association and our products are approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as well as Canada’s Pesticide Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) with the lowest risk and hazard rating of any industrial strength pesticide and fungicide.

Q: If I am already using other products to protect my wood, are Genics products compatible?

A: Yes, Genics products are safe to use with all current wood treatment products. Genics products will be much safer than the original remedial treatment to your workers and the environment.

Q: When is the best time to start using Genics products to protect my wood assets?

A: Due to the many variable conditions in different parts of the country, wood’s susceptibility to rot and infestation will vary. The best solution is to develop a program that suits your situation. Genics will work with you to determine what is best for your particular location.

Q: Do Genics products just work on fungal rot?

A: Genics products are very effective insecticides and fungicides. The Cobra^TM ROD, for internal treatment, contains copper and borates, both proven effective co-biocides. The Cobra^TM ROD sets up internal protection against fungal and insect attack. For external application, Cobra^TM WRAP, containing copper oxides in a P9 carrier, is highly effective against external attack fungal problems at and below the groundline. GenBor RTU is a very effective flood for existing insect and fungal infestation.

Q: How expensive are Genics products?

A: The cost will vary depending on the size of the structure to protect and degree of treatment. To provide an 8-10 year protection can often be less than a dollar a year - a very wise investment.

Q. What are Cobra^TM / PostGuard RODS?

A. Cobra^TM / PostGuard RODS are made entirely of Borax and Copper. In Their glass form, Cobra^TM / PostGuard RODS can be installed in the ‘target’ areas of your home by simply drilling a 1/2" hole and inserting the rod(s).

Q. What are the ‘target’ areas?

A. The target areas are those parts of your wood home/fence/deck which are exposed to moisture (rain/snow) and tend to retain that moisture. Over time these areas will become infested with rot and decay.

Q. How do Cobra^TM / PostGuard RODS work?

A. Cobra^TM / PostGuard RODS use that same moisture that causes rot to activate (dissolve and diffuse). In their dissolved state the Cobra^TM / PostGuard RODS migrate with the moisture, thus carrying an effective solution where it is needed most.

Q. I have treated lumber. Isn’t that enough?

A. For a time, the initial treatments are effective. However, over time these treatments will loose their effectiveness as checks, cracks and other damage to the exterior of the wood develop. At this point, the traditional treatments loose their effectiveness as unprotected wood is now exposed.

Q. I have cedar. Isn’t that good enough?

A. Cedar, along with being a beautiful wood choice, has a lot of natural preservatives. Unfortunately though, these too ‘wash’ away over time and rot can take hold.

Q. Do Cobra^TM / PostGuard RODS last forever?

A. If conditions stay dry, then yes they will last. In normal ‘wet’ conditions though, the Cobra^TM / PostGuard RODS will break down and diffuse through the wood. When this happens, simply ‘recharge’ the treatment hole with a new Cobra^TM / PostGuard ROD.

Q. Is this technology new?

A. No. Copper and borax have long been recognized as safe and effective wood preservatives. Millions of Cobra^TM RODS have been installed by utility companies across North America to extend the useful life of their wooden power poles.

Q. How do i install Cobra^TM / PostGuard RODS?

A. First, identify the target areas and select the size of Cobra^TM / PostGuard RODS you wish to use (See application chart). Then follow these three easy steps:
Drill correct size hole to sufficient depth.
Insert Cobra^TM / PostGuard ROD(S) into hole.
Plug treatment hole with Genics reusable Cobra^TM PLUG.

Q. I already have rot. Will Cobra^TM / PostGuard RODS help?

A. As long as the wood is structurally sound you can save it. Remove any soft rotten wood and then apply a liquid powder preservative to cover all surfaces.
